Water

Reading: SUI, mizu

Strokes:  4

Etymology: Taken from a pictograph of a river, the side strokes depict ripples.  However, maybe easier to remember the side strokes as river banks.

Mnemonic:  WATER SQUEEZES BETWEEN RIVER BANKS

Combinations:

水曜日 (suiyoubi) Wednesday
大水 (oomizu) flood

(Based upon Henshall, 1998)
