Evening

Reading: SEKI, yuu

Strokes: 3

Etymology: This character is derived from the same pictograph for moon (月), only without the line showing pitted surface.  Thus, the un-pitted moon came to represent evening.

Mnemonic: CLEAR MOON INDICATES EVENING.

Combinations:

今夕 (konseki) this evening
夕食 (yuushoku) evening meal
夕日 (yuuhi) setting sun

(Based upon Hanshall, 1998)
