Kanji structure (6)

The frame radical (kamae or gamae):


This is an enclosure radical, and is used in a variety of forms.

For example:

(かん/あいだ)means space.  Do you see the sun (ひ)shining through a space in the gate (もん)?

In  (くに)meaning country,  encloses a simplified version of  (いき)meaning a delineated area.  


Thus, delineated area + enclosed space = country.
